Extremely light weight and pocketable , I’d say he’s stylish in relative terms, but not a fashion itemHappy I got it! Recommend!I bought this jacket as I wanted something packable for summer showers and also to wear layers under it in the winter rains, mostly for dog walking which I do daily walking for up to 3 hours. The first time in the rain I was aware of some seepage around the shoulder and neck seams, not much but enough to dampen under garments slightly. After a few more walks in driving rain it became clear that the seams were a problem. The wider areas of gortex, front and back are fine, very waterproof and excellent wind proof and the hood seems great. It was disappointing as I bought this based on mostly favourable reviews. However I solved the problem by purchasing a NikWax waterproofing spray for gortex and gave the jacket especially the seams a good spraying whilst it was wet (very important). I am happy with the resultant waterproofing which should have been the case from the start without having to purchase the spray. It is however a very nice jacket and I am generally happy with it (now)I brought this for my partner in March 2019 and it seemed okay during the first few wears, but on holiday this jacket has proved itself to be totally 100% NOT WATERPROOF. He got completely soaked through. I got the same jacket myself, having seen his be waterproof at the start and now neither are waterproof in the slightest, Almost every wear when it's rained, for both of us it's been almost pointless to wear the jacket at all.For around £100 per jacket, and obviously with gore Tex I expected good waterproofing, and am very disappointed as previously I trusted Berghaus as a quality brand. I require a refund or replacement jackets that are waterproof. I would give this 0 stars if I could.I bought this coat for everyday use as I walk or run with my dog every day, and a lightweight waterproof was just what I needed. I am 6’1” chest 42” 13.5 stones and the size L is a perfect fit, in fact it has a very nice cut to it, better than the baggy waterproofs I have previously owned, it looks pretty smart. The Gore-tex does what it says on the tin, it keeps me dry and doesn’t fog up on the inside with perspiration. My one issue with the Berghaus is the hood design, I just can’t see more than 10ft in front of me with the hood up, because it is so large. Hood would be great in a rainstorm, nothing would touch your face, but for walking or running along in light rain it is pretty much annoying if not unusable. I suggest buyers try the hood before disposing of the packaging, and if you don’t like it return the coat. If Berghaus shaved an inch of fabric off the rim of hood I would rate it 5 star! This jacket was exactly what I was looking for in a light weight waterproof shell but unfortunately on its first test in the rain it failed. A couple tablespoons of water accumulated in the pockets and my body was wet down the front in a perfect line with the zip. There were also “juicy” patches on the inside at the shoulder seams and hood.I have sent it back for a replacement as hoping it was a defective example.**update**Replacement jacket has none of the same issues. No water accumulation in pockets and water beads off as it is supposed to. Suggest checking water beads off before using in earnest. If not seek replacement.I have 2 of the previous model, bought in 2005 and 2007. Fantastic lightweight rainproof "shells". So good that when I needed a new one recently I just ordered online. Never again Berghaus unless tried on and checked. SO what's different that matters (to me). 1) The pull cord on the hem only pulls together the rear-half 2) The pockets sit much lower so that it is no longer comfortable to walk with hands in pockets as mine now only just extend fully stretched to the bottom of the pocket - previously there was a more blouson type pocket, where my lower arms were almost horizontal to rest into pockets. Furthermore and perhaps even more important the zip opens to near the bottom of the pocket so that they are not deep enough to ensure that stuff does not fall out 3) The velcro on the sleeve bottoms do not overlap enough to close the gap to the arms ie the sleeve falls over the hand. OK I can sew more telco. 4) The front zip is now only one way so that the bottom cannot be loosened off if sitting. 5) There appears to be no tag at the neck to hang it on a peg - though I suppose the hood cord can be used.
